Church Operations Coordinator (Part-Time)

Grosse Pointe Congregational Church is an Open and Affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ located in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.

Behind every Sunday service, community event, and ministry is a team of staff and volunteers working together. This position plays an important role in supporting that work.
The Opportunity
This position serves as the organizational hub of our church's daily operations. You'll coordinate office administration, support Sunday worship, help manage church communications, assist with finance and building use, and partner closely with the Pastor, volunteers, and ministry leaders.
No two weeks look exactly the same, which makes this role ideal for someone who enjoys variety, solving problems, and helping others accomplish great work.
What You'll Do
OFFICE OPERATIONS
Coordinate day-to-day church office activities
Respond to phone calls, emails, and visitor inquiries
Maintain calendars, records, and shared documents
Order office supplies and coordinate vendors as needed
WORSHIP SUPPORT
Prepare weekly worship bulletins and presentation slides
Coordinate weekly worship logistics with the Pastor and volunteers
Help prepare materials for special services throughout the year
COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT
Update website content and calendars
Assist with weekly emails and social media
Create simple printed materials using established templates
Help communicate upcoming events and church activities
FINANCE & ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
Process weekly offerings and bank deposits
Prepare financial information for the Treasurer and Finance Steward
Maintain contribution records and administrative files
BUILDING USE & HOSPITALITY
Coordinate facility reservations and room scheduling
Welcome visitors, renters, and community groups
Help ensure church spaces are organized and ready for use
LEADERSHIP SUPPORT
Support the Pastor and Board of Stewards with meeting preparation, agendas, and documents
Help coordinate church events and ministry activities
Assist with weddings, funerals, baptisms, and membership records

Qualifications
We're more interested in finding the right person than checking every box, but ideal candidates will have experience in several of these areas:
Administrative or office coordination experience
Strong organizational and time management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Experience with Google Workspace or similar office software
Comfort learning new technology
Basic financial or bookkeeping experience is helpful
Experience coordinating events or volunteers is a plus
Previous church or nonprofit experience is welcomed but not required
Schedule
This position is designed around a consistent weekly schedule that provides reliable office hours for our congregation and ministry leaders.
The typical schedule includes:
Three consistent weekdays (approximately 9:00 AM–2:00 PM) selected collaboratively with the Pastor
Sunday mornings (approximately 9:00 AM–12:00 PM) to support worship and welcome activities
Compensation & Time Off
Part-time, hourly position (18 hours/week)
$28.00 per hour
10 paid vacation days
7 paid personal/sick days
1 floating holiday
